This block looks great and a nice explanation of your process!

  2. Great tip about cutting out the center of the fusible. I’ll have to try that sometime.

it’s so great to cut out the centers, you actually can draw shapes on the inside of the large pieces to save fusible!

I always forget to cut out the center of the fusible! Good grief, I didn’t think of it until I read your post. I guess I just don’t do enough applique. Great suggestion on measuring the bottom piece. Mine printed out close to what it needed as the block was almost right on. Just a hair short. But isn’t that the way things are in life.

I didn’t realize mine was short until then too… that’s when I realized I needed to add fabric to my sides to make sure I could trim it down!

I’ve had so many instances in the past month where I said, “if only I had a lightbox!” I really like your dark background! It really makes the lantern “shine!”

Daylight makes the best lightbox! They are a little pricey but I LOVE mine!!! They usually have discounts at shows, but if you track Massdrop the lightbox gets offered every so often!

  5. Your block is stunning! That grunge background fabric really sets it off. After admiring all of your blocks, I was excited to discover yesterday that a relatively local quilt shop started carrying grunge fabric. I may have to try it soon.

  6. Another beautiful block you have made Sherry. I must remember to cut out the center of the fusible, it does make an appliqué block less stiff.
It snowed today in Pennsylvania! 😮
