Today, the new issue of Modern by the Yard is released! Modern by the Yard is a quarterly e-zine from Benartex fabric featuring free quilting projects made with Benartex fabrics.
Issue 10 is online now and you'll find one of my projects listed in the e-zine! It really is COLOR-IFFIC! It uses the Color Sphere collection and it's beginner friendly!
Now, why do I say "with a Twist!"? If you look on the cover of the e-zine each issue there is a section called Modern with a Twist! The section is all about traditional blocks with a modern spin. This issue is taking a traditional Log Cabin and putting a modern take on the block. I used Saturn Stripes in Grape from Color Sphere collection and mocked up my Off Center Cabin Block.
I historically have found Log Cabin blocks to be a bit boring, so I played with the idea of moving the center off the block by using different sized strips. I first showed off this block in my Cozy Cabins Challenge last November. I wrote a pattern for this block! The pattern is for a group of 4 blocks, 2 of each color as shown below.
The pattern also includes how to scale up the cutting instructions for making the quilt in larger sizes!
