Turnabout Patchwork Blog Hop + Giveaway! (Friday Foto Fun #70)

Today is the last day of the Turnabout Patchwork blog hop! I can finally share my project with you, Holiday Trellis!  Turnabout Patchwork is a brand new book by Teresa Mairal Barreu of Sewn Up Patterns.  The book is all about sewing together blocks, cutting them up and making new blocks for endless quilt possibilities!

I picked out a layer cake of Winter Wonderland that I've been saving and a gray dot fabric.  Because I knew we were going to be cutting fabric apart and sewing and bias seams everywhere, I used Faultless starch to help limit the stretch in the fabric.  One thing I should have remembered, starch shrinks the fabric slightly and you should definitely starch before cutting!  I needed 5" squares from my layer cake and I had to make a few adjustments while sewing because of the size change after starching.

With Holiday Trellis, you start with a simple nine-patch, cut it up into different triangles and sew the triangles back together!

I highly recommend using a design wall to make sure that the quilt is balanced when using a lot of prints.  In between all of the sewn/cut/sewn again blocks, I used the mainly red fabric prints of the layer cake.  I ended up playing around with the layout until I was happy.

My quilt was finished off with some light diagonal straight line quilting.  I alternated white and red thread to be less visible on the fabrics.

The quilt was super fast and fun to put together.  There are so many possibilities to be making different quilts with this book.

You can pick up your copy of Turnabout Patchwork here!  Or you can enter to win a digital copy below.  Teresa has been gracious enough to give away a digital copy of her book and a PDF of one of her patterns!  You can look through her pattern shop here!  Good Luck!  The giveaway is open until 12am CST Friday 15, 2019.  Void where prohibited by law.
