Ready. Set. Go! Challenge (Friday Foto Fun #81)

Are you ready?  Go go go!!!  I feel like that with the AccuQuilt Cutter!  You can read about my first impression of the cutter in my blog post earlier this month.  This quilt was so fun to make and so fast!  This month's Island Batik Ambassador Challenge is to create a square baby quilt using the AccuQuilt Cutter.  The fabrics and AccuQuilt Cutter showcased in this post were given to me by Island Batik and AccuQuilt as a part of the ambassador program.  This quilt ranks highly as one of my favorite quilts I've ever made.

I used the pinwheel design on point with cornerstones.  Typical piecing would have taken me a long time to cut out and trim off all the dog ears of the triangles, but with the cutter it was super fast and easy!  I used the pattern book that came with the Ready. Set. GO! Bundle and modified it (changed the number of blocks) to create the 48" square size. I cut all the pieces with the AccuQuilt cutter in less than an hour.  It was lightning fast!  The best part was not having to trim any of the blocks after they were pieced, everything was already the correct size!  Trimming is the worst.

This is what the blocks looked like before the sashing.  I used Paisley Dot for 21 of the pinwheels and picked 4 dot prints from the Soul Song collection to make all 25 blocks.  The corners of the blocks are Silverado, an Island Batik Foundation fabric.

The cornerstones of the quilt used Grey, an Island Batik Foundation fabric because I ran out of Silverado.  It gives the quilt an intentional pop of a darker color!  I also used a strip of Grey down the backing to make it wide enough to use with the width of fabric backing fabric.

I used Hobbs 80/20 Cotton Blend for batting with Aurifil 50wt in white for quilting and piecing.  I absolutely love this batting and need to get more.  It's loftier than pure cotton, but not so much that it highlights my flaws in the free motion quilting.  Here is the back of the quilt and a close up of the ribbon candy on the sashing!  Click the photos to enlarge.  I feel like the 100 Day Project is helping my confidence grow in free motion quilting my own quilts!

This quilt is so pretty I couldn't stop taking photos of it!  Enjoy!
