Tool Time Part 1! (Friday Foto Fun #103)

Happy Black Friday! I don't have a sale today, but be sure to be on my newsletter to get my Cyber Monday deals! However, that's not what this post is about!  November is over in like 2 days... down to the wire to finish this month's challenge!

The Island Batik Ambassador Challenge this month is Tool Time, use a tool or a specialty ruler to create a lap-sized quilt.  The fabrics showcased in this post were given to me by Island Batik as a part of the ambassador program.

I decided to use the BRAND NEW Sew Kind of Wonderful ruler, the Wonder Curve Ruler!  The sisters of Sew Kind of Wonderful introduced this ruler at Quilt Market a few weeks ago.  You can purchase this ruler on their website and a special note to shops, distributors are not carrying this ruler.  They wanted to keep costs equivalent to their other rulers, so they are cutting out the distributors in order to keep this ruler the same cost.  I picked a Mermaid Cove strip pack and coordinating basics for this quilt.

If you are afraid of curves, the Sew Kind of Wonderful rulers teach curves with no pinning! The concept is oversized pieces that then get trimmed down to size.  The fun part about this ruler is that the curves will make a perfect circle and are completely scaleable unlike the Quick Curve Ruler and Mini Quick Curve Ruler. Also if you are familiar with these rulers, you'll know they come with a pattern.  The pattern with the Wonder Curve Ruler is a little table runner that has 5 butterflies on it.  I decided to take that block and create 8 of them!

Here's why this is only part 1... I ran into a bit of bad luck or absent-mindedness yesterday with cutting the backing the wrong size, issues with thread on the longarm (and crashing said longarm), and just plain frustration!  So the quilt isn't quite finished yet!  But I can show you a sneak peek of what the quilt looks like!  The strip pack of Mermaid Cove was used as the center portion of the quilt!  I'll give more detailed instructions on how to make this quilt yourself tomorrow!

Since it's Black Friday, what are you looking forward to purchasing today?
