Cuddle Fabric is Soft, but is it worth it?

As part of the Odif Ambassador program, I got a Shannon Fabrics Cuddle kit to make something out of.  Since this is the first time in over 5 years that I used Minky, and the first time I used Shannon Fabrics, I decided to just make the cuddle kit as-is.

The first time that I ever used Minky fabric, I made the biggest mess ever.  I got fuzz EVERYWHERE.  I still have some of that Minky in my stash somewhere, but I didn't want to use it again.  I have found out through the ambassador program that fabric booster would help control the stretch of the cuddle fabric. Turns out that is correct, but seeing as the softness has long hairs, depending on how you cut up the pieces you can still get cuddle confetti everywhere.  A lint roller is a must-have when working with cuddle fabric.  I was actually able to contain the mess enough that I am considering making a larger quilt with cuddle backing.  It would be so soft!

So what is Fabric Booster?  Fabric booster is a product that you spray on the back of the cuddle fabric that stiffens the stretch.  It'd work great on knits as well to controls the stretch.  I also use fabric booster to make fabric-like paper for labels on my quilts.  To use fabric booster, make sure you shake up the bottle really well and spray it on your fabric.  Let it soak in for a bit, cover your fabric with parchment paper to protect your iron, and iron the fabric.  Easy peasy!

The cuddle kit used the quilt-as-you-go method with stitch and flip.  I used my trusty 505 basting spray to hold fabric down as I flipped it over to be sewn.

The only thing that this kit recommended that I didn't use was a 90/14 stretch needle.  I decided to continue to use my normal Microtex 80/12 needle, but I think I should have bought a stretch needle just in case. I'm not actually sure it if would have made a difference.

Anyway, the quilt turned out super cute and it's so cuddly!  Too bad all my nieces and nephews like pink!

Have you tried Cuddle or Minky before?  What were your thoughts?
