As the first Aurifil Artisan challenge for the 2020 season, I decided to make an Everyday Tote by Bagstock Designs. This month the challenge was to use our favorite thread weight. My absolute favorite thread weight is 50 due to the fact that I can piece and quilt with 50wt as well as make bags. In my opinion, it's the most versatile thread weight and covers 99% of my thread needs. Some bags will require a thicker thread like 40wt, but my Everyday Tote is just fine with 50wt.
The fabric that I picked was from QuiltCon earlier this year when Vera Bradley was selling their fabric by the yard! I love the pretty purple. I paired the fabric with #2581 Dark Dusty Grape thread and Eggplant colored cork from Fabric Funhouse. The tote is a perfect everyday size and even fits my Surface Laptop inside.
The top has a recessed zipper, and the interior has a roomy slip pocket and a zipper pocket.
At the bottom of the bag, I included 6 purse feet to increase the durability of the bag.
I used the 50wt thread throughout the bag and it blended perfectly with the cork. Check out the beautiful detail on the straps and topstitching.
