Raw Edge Weaving! (Friday Foto Fun #141)

It's Friday again! TGIF. I experimented last weekend with raw edge fabric weaving.  I've woven fabric panels before, but I've always made strips with the raw edges tucked under.  Pretty much making a whole bunch of bias tape strips to weave together which took forever! Raw edges meaning for a 1" strip, I cut exactly 1".

I used batik fabrics since batiks have a tighter weave and don't fray as easily as normal quilting cotton. I think the fraying was pretty minimal, but there was still a bit on the edges.  After I was done with the weave, I used Odicoat by Odif to seal the panel.  Odicoat is a paste-like product that coats the surface of the fabric that makes it similar to oilcloth.  I did one thin coat and waited for it to dry.  I realized there were a few areas that weren't completely sealed, so I added a second coat. I think it turned out pretty neat!  It's way thinner than the other woven panels I've done in the past because it's half the fabric!

Here are some other bags that I've made with woven panels!  All of these panels are have the raw edges tucked underneath and are woven with Wefty Needles!

I am going to see if I can use this fabric panel I made last week for my Serin Sling that I'll be making tomorrow on stream!  I think this would be a super fun accent fabric for the bag.  Grab the pattern here and join me tomorrow at 8am in making the bag!  Or you can come just hang out and say hi!

What are your weekend sewing plans?
