This month's Aurifil Artisan project was to incorporate fabric provided to us from Freespirit! We got 5 fat quarters of Kaffe fabric to use. These fabrics are a bit bright compared to my normal color palette, so I debated the project for several weeks before cutting into them.
I figured that I needed to add in some neutrals to tone the color down and decided to make a woven panel with the fabric! I used white and black solids in a triaxial weave. This is also the first time that I have stitched the woven panel down across the diagonals with Aurifil 40wt 2024 (white), 2630 (charcoal), and 2150 (orange). Check out the other times I made woven panels here.
This panel was used as the exterior flap of my Lilac Mini Messenger bag (pattern by Blue Calla). It turned out SUPER cute!
The interior of the bag used one of the Kaffe fat quarters, and I used another print for the slip pocket left over from the strips for weaving.
Bag Details:
- Pattern: Lilac Mini Messenger Bag by Blue Calla (it's free!)
- Fabric: Kaffe Fabric from Free Spirit Fabrics. Cork from Fabric Funhouse.
- Hardware: Miscellaneous other hardware from various sources.
- Thread: Aurifil 40wt 2024 (white), 2630 (charcoal), and 2150 (orange)
- Needle for Weaving: Wefty Needle
Have you tried fabric weaving before? I love it and it's much simpler than you'd think! The only downside, it uses a lot more fabric than you'd think!
