Destination: Quilt Along Block 3!

Block 3 releases today! Abbie Danahy from Sparkle On is this week's designer for Block 3 of Destination: Quilt Along. I picked out lots of grunge to make this awesome block!

Here are my top tips:

For the applique portion, I used Lite Steam a Seam 2 and a pencil. Trace the templates onto the paper side of the Lite Steam a Seam 2. Then iron to the BACK of the desired fabric. To cut out the windows of the ice cream truck, I used a box cutter and a ruler to get accurate straight lines.

For the triangles on the banner, I opted to not have raw edges. This required me to snip the end of the triangle to reduce bulk and turn the triangle. I used a Clover turning tool to get the point of the triangle.

Use straight pins to help align the banners in place before straight stitching them in place.

Cut out the shapes and place them on the block, iron in place. I used Aurifil monofilament thread with white thread in the bobbin to zigzag stitch the applique in place. The monofilament thread helps me to not need to change thread colors! This is more of a time saver when there are multiple applique pieces of different colors. Then trim the blocks to 12.5" square.
