Guardian Backpack (Friday Foto Fun #194)

Happy Friday!!! This last weekend I made the Guardian Backpack by Linds Handmade on stream.  It is a great-sized day trip backpack with the main zipper towards the back of the bag to deter theft.

I picked an Elsa panel for the main print on the backpack and it fit perfectly!  I used seatbelt webbing for the backpack straps and the shoulder strap of the bag.  The back part of the bag used the princess illuminations print from Oh So Pretty fabrics.  You can see the main zipper to open the bag on this side.

The interior is completely open with a slip pocket.  The bottom of the bag is the only portion of the bag that needed binding to hide the raw edges.

My thoughts on the bag and pattern:

• The side panels were difficult to sew on and the inside had puckers, but you can't really tell from the outside of the bag.
• This was the first time I used waterproof canvas (WPC) and I had to adjust the tension on my sewing machine because it caused drag on the thread.
• I do love that WPC does not unravel and you can raw edge bind the bottom of the bag.
• WPC also allows for structure in the bag and there was no extra interfacing that I needed to add for the interior parts of the bag.
• If I wear a backpack on one shoulder, it's usually my left.  I should have had the zipper close on the right side so that it's on the same side as the shoulder I wear the bag.  It's the opposite on this bag because I didn't think about it until I tried the bag after I finished sewing everything.
• Overall, the pattern was really great but my first execution of the pattern had room for improvement.
