Happy Earth Day! Today, we are celebrating Earth View fabrics from Karen Nyberg for Robert Kaufman fabrics!
The fabric collection shows some awesome images of the Earth and I decided to use my fat quarters to create a hot pad to use in my kitchen. The terrain images in the fabric give the fabric some interesting textures and I added a solid white for my cathedral window. The squares are folded on the diagonal and cover the base fabric as shown before sewn together.
There is another main fabric piece that is placed in the middle of the white square before the edges of the white fabric are folded inwards and sewn down. I ended up using 2 layers of Insul-bright by the Warm Company instead of batting so the hot pad is super insulated. I used Aurifil 50wt thread to quilt the hot pad together with the Insul-bright and the backing.
Once I finished quilting the hot pad, I added binding as I would to a quilt and finished the small project!
My hot pad is ready for use in the kitchen! YAY!
What are your sewing plans this weekend? Remember no streams until May 7th for me. We are 7 days out until we close on our home! I'm so excited!
