Starting to get back into the swing of making beautiful things again! I made this beautiful Gabrielle Shoulder Bag this past weekend on my Twitch channel. I had to make a few modifications, but it turned out pretty acceptable!
The exterior and interior are created with quilting cotton and I added cork for the handle and base of the bag. In addition to Shapeflex, the bag used Pellon 809, fusible fleece, and Decovil Heavy.
The interior has a slip pocket on one side. It's actually pretty roomy and will fit the Serendipity Wallet I made last week nicely.
Now for the pattern review:
- The templates were completely in metric units, so it was rather annoying to have everything cut out via templates (even the rectangular pieces).
- The trickiest part or rather the part that I need to improve on is the zipper. My zipper was the correct size but is a little wavy on the curvature of the opening.
- The exterior fabric requirements are 1/4yard... this is not Fat Quarter friendly! I had to piece the gusset, but the base covers that up. The handle was also supposed to be from the same fabric, but I didn't have enough left so I used cork instead.
- The curvature of the bottom was nice and it didn't pucker on the exterior or interior. However, adding the straps shifted and skewed the bag in one direction. If I were to make this again in the future, I would need to figure out how to adjust the edges and the straps so the finish is more square.
