I made an Atlas Rucksack! This is a fun pattern by Swoon Patterns and I finished it in about 4 hours.
I used canvas and faux leather for the exterior of the bag. The canvas is Cuzco by Kate Spain from Spoonflower and it's one of my favorite prints. The bag does not have a zip closure on top but is rolled and then secured with straps to keep it closed. The straps secure in front and become the backpack straps on the back. There is a hanging strap on the back with reinforcement across the top.
I did not make any pockets in the interior. The bag is just one big sack. The only zipper pocket is on the exterior on the bottom. It's a little hidden but you can click on the images to enlarge to see the zipper pocket.
Now for the pattern review:
- There are no templates required for this pattern! Everything was cut by ruler and rotary cutter.
- I think the faux leather was either too thick for the straps or I need to get larger rings to secure. I would remake the straps with canvas or interfaced quilting cotton.
- The straps that have the rings in front were much too long and I ended up cutting the straps shorter. I would have rather attached the straps so they were longer in the back since it's the same piece.
- I think the raw edge faux leather looks icky and I wish the pattern suggested strap ends for the bag. I would add those for the next time I make the bag.
- Overall, this pattern goes under the "Will Make Again" list.
