Today I'm sharing the last bag that was made at the Wizardry Getaway, the Hiraeth Handbag by Lavender & Twine. I love Lavender & Twine patterns and this one did not disappoint.
I am finding it harder and harder lately to keep my life straight, for example deciding that I wanted to make my second Hiraeth on stream this past Saturday! Making this one during the getaway with all of the pieces cut out took over 6 hours! There was no way that I was going to finish a Hiraeth in one stream. In addition to the fact that I was supposed to be starting the Transparent Stars informal sew-along on Saturday instead, whoops. We are going to delay that sew-along until further notice. I haven't done my fabric pulls nor did I remember to do any prep for the quilt!
Anyway back to the Hiraeth!
I didn't do a great job with photos because I forgot an interior photo (again) for this bag, but the lining was made up of waterproof canvas and there is a slip pocket and interior zipper pocket inside. The construction of the bag was similar to another one of the Lavender & Twine patterns where there isn't a birthing process nor a drop in lining, but rather sewing the bottom of the bag through the pocket. The getaway provided plastic corrugate to slip into the bag to use as a base which makes it super sturdy! I've used it before for posters for work but never knew where to buy it. Spoiler, you can get it at Home Depot.
The last thing to note about this bag, the crossbody strap was made of seatbelt webbing, and I actually really love how it folds up nicer than the vinyl/faux leather crossbody straps. Because the seatbelt webbing is light weight, it's also much easier to carry inside the purse and use when needed.
Overall I love this bag and can't wait to finish the one I started this past weekend. I'll be finishing it up on October 22 since this Saturday is a Simply stream!
Which bag was your favorite from the retreat? I loved the opportunity to sew them all with some amazing teachers and bagmakers. I can't wait for next year's retreat!
