My Best of 2017 and Quilting/Blog Recap!

My final recap of 2017 by the numbers:

I didn't take a count of all the zippy bags I made or other non-quilty things. But the stack of quilts are what's left after the gifts!  If you want to see the quilts completed, visit my 2017 Completed Quilts page here.

My most proud quilt finish of 2017: Frame It Up!  I released this pattern at the end of November and I love it so much I am planning on remaking the quilt in a larger size using Kate Spain's Longitude batiks!  I think it's a good sign that I love something so much to make another in the same pattern.  Since this will not be secret sewing, I'll be able to share some tips on how I pick and pair colors together to make the quilt using a full collection of fabrics!  Kate Spain's Longitude batiks are not released until February.  If you'd like to purchase a PDF or paper copy of the Frame It Up pattern, visit my shop!

My biggest lesson of 2017: Don't ignore the upper thread sensor on my Bernina. Don't ignore the big warning sign when then machine boots up and says you shouldn't ignore the upper thread sensor and to bring your machine in. Don't keep sewing, bring your machine in. That's at least what I should have done… instead I wanted to finish my project as I was free motion quilting my I Wish You A Merry QAL quilt.  I fought the machine to get the tension correct during free motion quilting and breaking threads and then finally lost timing on my machine.  My baby is now back in the shop. Lesson learned, don't ignore the upper thread sensor. (Insert lots of facepalm emojis here)

My Best of 2017 Blog Posts:

I Wish You a Merry QAL Block 5!

This was my snowman block that I designed for the QAL.  We had such a great time hosting and designing for the QAL that we are planning another one for 2018!  Stay tuned for more details!

Circular Illusion Pattern Release

I love this optical illusion quilt and it was very beginner friendly!  It looks much harder than it actually is to make this awesome quilt!

Barn Quilt Block Tutorial

I designed this block and tutorial for a Bonnie and Camille Barn Quilt Swap.  This is a fun little block to quilt and makes a great wall hanging.

Paper Piecing Tutorial

Even though I realized I dislike tiny paper piecing, I still love the accuracy and precision of paper piecing.  I made this tutorial to help out a BOM quilting group I participated in, since others were getting confused on the process.

Moda Modern Building Block Tips

This quilt was awesome and yet so frustrating at times!  I ended up making a summary of my thoughts and helpful tips on making this amazing quilt!  One day I might make another one.

This was a great year and I'm hoping to make 2018 even better!
