Without further ado, here are my 7 for this week… the good, bad, and ugly!
#22 What made you smile today? I escaped the major snowstorm due to travel this past week! I did run into a bit of snow in Kansas, but it didn't last too long. I attempted to draw a snowflake with pen without sketching in pencil first, I equate this with trying to do a crossword puzzle in pen. I'm horrible at crossword puzzles.
#23 Fill the page with colored dots. This was interesting. I used colored pencils for this exercise, and I realized I did all the dots of one color first, then the second, then the third, etc. until the page was full. The end product still has the random feel even though it was completed one color at a time.
#24 Color in the stripes. Colored pencils again, and I challenged myself to put colors next to each other that I typically wouldn't. I am a big support of gradients of colors or the rainbow, so deviating from that is very difficult.
#25 Fill in the squares with different marks. I used this as tiny little practice squares for free motion quilting (FMQ) motifs. I think this is something I could enlarge into a doodling exercise. Again, my infinity loops look the best out of all of the motifs! I attempted feathers towards the end (one up from the bottom-right most square), and I think it's a motif I really love, but my actual FMQ feathers look really wonky. Must doodle more!
#26 Add your own scene to the river. This is the UGLY for this week. I couldn't decide what I wanted to happen down by the river, so you end up with a hodge podge of stuff: 2 poorly drawn houses, a person fishing in the stream, a person that has a canoe, a girl with a kite, a horse, a car (it started as a bale of hay, but why would hay be by the river? So I turned it into a car because that would be more realistic...right?), and plenty of fish in the river. Can you identify all of those items?
#27 Continue creating your own designs using warm colors. The top two rows were already part of the book, and I added the designs below them using colored pencils, crayons, and markers. The designs I had chosen were a mix between piecing designs and free motion motifs. I also came to the conclusion that I am not the biggest fan of warm colors, bring on the cool colors please!
#28 Design some T-shirts. Aren't you glad I'm not a t-shirt designer?! This is rather sad except for maybe to top right shirt. That one I actually like with the wonky star and heart. I figured I shouldn't just put quilt blocks on the center of the t-shirts and call it a day, so I tried to make some fun stripes or designs. Not sure if you can tell but the bottom right is a "Hello My Name Is..." on the t-shirt, I thought it was funny.
