Metro Rings Mini Quilt

I love mini quilts so much and mini quilt swaps are my absolute favorite!  A few weeks ago I signed up for an Alison Glass mini swap.  I figured this was a great opportunity to use some of the Alison Glass fabric that I love and have been saving.  I'm trying to actually use my fabric that I love rather than hoard, so this was a great start.  I picked the Metro Rings pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful.

I love patterns by Sew Kind of Wonderful because they always give you so much play with their curves.  You always sew, trim, and repeat until you finish the blocks.  My partner requested warm colors and I decided to add in the neutrals and a pop of blue.  The pattern starts you with sewing strips of color together to get the patchwork on the rings.  I alternated the warm colors with the gray.

Using the Quick Curve Ruler (affiliate link), you cut the fabric into curved strips to make the rings.

Next you'll add the background pieces, carefully curve piecing to either side of the strip.  Notice how much gets trimmed off of the pieces.  This gives so much flexibility to hide the imperfections of curved piecing.

Each of these pieces are then sewn into a block.  I made 5 blocks total, 4 of them for this quilt: two with black ends and two with aqua ends.  I couldn't decide which layout to choose.

I ultimately picked the circle layout.  I turned the extra block I made into a mug rug.  I used this block to test different quilting motifs to figure out what would look best.  I think I over quilted the block and didn't haven't anything that stands out.

For the mini, I decided to stick with straight line quilting outlining the rings.  There is no quilting on the rings themselves to help it stand out from the rest of the quilt.

I hope my partner loves my mini!

Do you love curved piecing? Have you tried a Sew Kind of Wonderful pattern?
