Just because I'm at Sewtopia, does not mean I forgot to do my art! Week 14 of the 365 Days Of Art Challenge! I'm still chugging along through this book! If you haven't started yet, no worries! The link up at the bottom of the post will be open all year so be sure to check back to see what other fellow creatives have made with this week's exercises. Read more about the challenge here.
Without further ado, here are my 7 for this week… the good, bad, and ugly!
#92 Color the grid. My favorite exercise this week. Partly because I made my blocks into Tetris blocks! Tetris is one of my all-time favorite games! However, it was really hard for the Tetris player in me to make that little gap on the right hand side!!
#93 Draw a cloud. Keeping with the video game theme, I thought of the little Mario clouds from Super Mario Kart! But then I realized that was actually a Koopa in the cloud, so I just made a generic Mario World (?) cloud. My husband who proofreads my posts is probably going to correct me that it's actual such and such Mario game.
#94 What made you smile today? My quilt labels came today!!! I love them, and it totally made me smile! However, my lettering that I did for "My quilt labels came arrived" does not make me smile. I need more practice...
#95 Fill the tree with birds. This is similar to Exercise 41 about the birds. I think these birds were really easy for their hair, eyes, and beaks. The feet was a completely different story! I tried drawing some of the feet and they looked so messed up I stopped drawing them!
#96 Cut a piece of fruit in half and draw what you see. I cheated. I will totally admit that I didn't actually cut an orange in half and draw what I saw. If I did that, I think this would be much better than what I actually drew. I did the orange from memory, and the little brown spots are supposed to be seeds that you'd find in an orange. I didn't have a tan colored pencil so it looks more like a poop spot than a seed.
#97 Complete the pattern. The engineer in me absolutely loves these types of exercises because I can complete the patterns and make a specific pattern over and over again. What I could do for this one is match the colors correctly. I definitely could not find matching colors with my colored pencils so I ended up with some funky looking circles, but the pattern is copied. Success... maybe.
#98 Draw lots of noses. If you haven't figured out by now, I do not draw faces very often, and noses are like the most difficult facial object to draw (after the mouth... and the ears, and maybe the eyes!). I drew a lot of noses from the front and from a profile view. I even threw in a button cartoon nose and side triangle nose!
Bonus this week! I remembered to take a photo of the acrylic painting I did in 8th grade. For this piece we had to make patterns or grids for each section. It's like insta-quilt design. What do you think?! The little dog character in the middle is Pochacco (a Sanrio character) and he's painting the Taiwanese flag.
Now that we've all had a good chuckle and/or grimace, I encourage you to join in the fun and expand your creative horizons too!
