Fall Into A QAL Block 2!

Today's the day! Block 2 is released, and I am so excited to share my version of this week's block.  April Adams is the designer of this week's Harvest Basket Block.  Check out her blog post for the tutorial and the pattern of the block.

My block is made of all Moda Grunge fabrics.  The block is constructed in two parts, the handle and the basket.  For the handle, make sure you iron your square in half to find the center to add the corner triangle.

Once you have both corners sewn on, it's time to trim to handle.

Here are some helpful tips for trimming. Align the top of the ruler 1/4" away from the corner seam to have the proper seam allowance.

To help straighten the ruler, make sure that the edge of the ruler at 6.5" is where the corner and the handle meet on both sides.

Trim the two sides and top, then rotate the block to cut the bottom part.

For the basket part, make sure you trim down the weave to size before adding the top and bottom.  You should be trimming 0.75" off each side to make sure the weave is centered.

After sewing the corners on the bottom of the basket, I like to press the corners open to confirm that they are the right size before I trim away the excess fabric.

Sew the handle to the basket and you are now done!  Block 2 down!

Don't forget to submit your completed block on April's linky party, the Facebook Group Page, and/or on Instagram with #FallIntoAQAL to be entered into this week's prizes!  One lucky person will win an Eleanor Burns "Quilt in a Day" pattern donated by JANDA Bend Quilts and an Omnigrid Mesh Project Pouch.

The prize entry window starting from 12AM Eastern on May 29, 2018, until 11:59PM Eastern on June 11, 2018.

As a reminder, I have a quick links page to catch up on the blocks in this QAL and my associated blog posts.  You can also get to that page by clicking the Fall Into A QAL button on the right sidebar.

The sponsors for the grand prize have also been announced. In order to be eligible for the grand prize, you must make a quilt top using all twelve of the QAL blocks by November 13th, 2018. Please note that all patterns are only free until the end of the QAL.

Happy Sewing! I can't wait to see your blocks!
