It's Week 26 of the 365 Days Of Art Challenge! We are halfway done!! WOOHOO! This is also July 1st, so make sure to check out the July Monthly Color Challenge Block that is released today as well!.
If you haven't started yet, no worries! The link up at the bottom of the post will be open all year so be sure to check back to see what other fellow creatives have made with this week's exercises. Read more about the challenge and catch up on all the previous weeks!
Without further ado, here are my 7 for this week… the good, bad, and ugly!
#176 Calligraphy Practice. This week we worked on capital Os. I think I'm getting better at using the brush markers, but I see all these videos of people using regular Crayola markers. There are actually quite a few quilters that I know who also do hand lettering. Melanie from Hello Mello Designs wrote a blog post a few months ago talking about how hand lettering actually improved her free motion quilting skills. I need to hand letter more.
#177 Design your own fairy lights. This is a repeated exercise in the book, but I didn't find it nearly as frustrating to do this time. I actually branched out and tried different designs for my lights! Creativity is a learned skill... as long as you keep working on it!
#178 Write down five great things that happened to you today. Remember how I said I was getting better with the brush markers... I take that back. This was super awkward to write out in script lettering and my penmanship definitely could use some work.
#179 Today spend 30 minutes drawing. Set a timer, choose an object or a scene (perhaps the corner of a room) and spend 30 minutes observing and drawing it. In my infinite creativity, I decided to pick a corner of a room! But I did choose an interesting one. This is the entry door into the bedroom but through the door, I could also see the entryway into the hall bathroom. I still didn't use a ruler for my straight lines so I could blame the lack of perspective on my lack of a ruler. Overall I'm pretty proud of this drawing!
#180 Design the houses in the streets. This exercise looks infinitely better in the photograph than I feel it does in the book. I think the vibrant colors that I chose really stand out and look very cheerful. Probably my favorite exercise this week!
#181 Draw someone important to you. I really thought I was getting better at drawing faces. I really did... until this one. Sorry hubby, this is supposed to be you... but really it just looks like a scary person.
#182 Draw your favorite pair of shoes. I cheated and drew a single shoe of the pair of shoes that I really love. I love my Tieks and I have a pair in ruby red! I feel like Dorothy.
Now that we've all had a good chuckle and/or grimace, I encourage you to join in the fun and expand your creative horizons too!
