It’s a Wonder Full Life

Last day of the Wonder Full Blog Hop! I'm excited to be a part of this blog hop showing off Lizzie Clark's newest fabric line, Wonder Full from Sweet Bee Designs!  I received a fat quarter bundle from Lizzie for my creation!

I decided that I wanted to make a woven bag with this beautiful fabric.  Each of the colors is so rich and vibrant, so I thought it'd look fantastic in a triaxle weave!

If you are new to fabric weaving, check out these previous blog posts:  Try a Technique (my first attempt) and Modern Stitching Affair Recap (my class with Wefty creator, Tara Curtis).

I picked the yellow, dark pink, and blue as my weaving fabrics to create these cube things (as my husband likes to call them).  I didn’t sew the edges down because I actually really like the texture of the woven parts.  However,  this limits my ability to wash the woven parts in the washing machine because the backs of the strips are still raw edged.

I picked Sara Lawson from Sew Sweetness' Baker Street Bag as my bag of choice!  This bag is super cute and is a free pattern from Sara so you can make one too!  Because I got a fat quarter bundle, the bottom part of the bag and liner are diagonally pieced in the same fabric to create the length I needed.  The seam is on the bottom of the bag, so it's hardly noticeable!

The first thing that you'll do with the bag pattern is cut the main pattern from my woven panel.  I traced the outside of the pattern piece and remembered to baste stitch on the inside of the drawn line.  Working with a woven panel you should always baste stitch before cutting or else the weave may come apart even with the Shape Flex fused on the back.

I used different prints from the Wonder Full line to create the lining and the two pockets of the bag.

I decided to still use Annie's Soft and Stable foam even though the woven piece is rather thick because I love the final foam bag feel. Wonder clips are a lifesaver for assembling the final bag.

Ta Da!  My bag is finished!  Doesn't this look wickedly awesome?!

The bag finishes at 12" long x 8" tall x 4" deep.
