It's Week 27 of the 365 Days Of Art Challenge! If you haven't started yet, no worries! The link up at the bottom of the post will be open all year so be sure to check back to see what other fellow creatives have made with this week's exercises. Read more about the challenge and catch up on all the previous weeks!
Without further ado, here are my 7 for this week… the good, bad, and ugly!
#183 Create an image using the grid. I always imagine the log cabin blocks like a vortex that spirals outwards. Anyone else do that? No? Just me? I just happen to imagine this vortex as a rainbow!
#184 Draw some of the items you have in your store cupboard. I ended up only draw 3 items as I realized everything in my pantry (I assume that's what a store cupboard is. Lorna Scobie, the author, is British.) are similar shapes. I ended up just wanting to bubble letter the labels of my objects.
#185 Draw your breakfast using blocks of color. Having it in front of you will encourage you to work quickly! Coffee is my breakfast staple. Scrambled eggs and bacon were thrown in there for good measure. Not always a part of my breakfast. I thought it was weird to not indicate a plate since blocks of color seemed rather vague, so I draw a plate outline.
#186 Create a page of cats. This is a lot of cats... and they took forever. I also am deathly allergic to cats (they are adorable, but they kill me). I decided to make colorful cats and decorate them for fun! My husband suggested that I should have a skull and crossbones on one of them due to my allergies, it became my favorite one! Can you find that cat?
#187 Explore different materials to discover what you enjoy using. Today, try a brush pen to create different marks. I still don't think I like these brush pens. I feel like lettering with an aquash brush is easier to do than using these pens. However, that might be user error and maybe I just need to practice more. I'm not good at switching between the thin and thick lines.
#188 Write down a positive phrase or mantra. Carrie Bloomston's article in Craft Industry Alliance The last few days I've been reading articles about other artists in the quilting industry. It started with one who discussed why she left the gig business and got a day job. Other artists posted their thoughts on their blogs, like Steph Skardal, QuiltCon2019 Best in Show winner, and Caroline Hadley of Geometriquilt. It got me down and thinking about how I want to structure my business and what I want to get out of it. This mantra is the absolute stubborness in me that knows I'll figure out a way to make it work for me.
#189 Draw the weather today. Kansas City is hot. Seriously. I know I grew up in Dallas, but I haven't lived there in almost 15 years. The last 5 years in Minnesota has made me heat intolerant!
Now that we've all had a good chuckle and/or grimace, I encourage you to join in the fun and expand your creative horizons too!
