My New Sewing Space! (Friday Foto Fun #40)
My sewing studio is at least 90% there! I started some secret sewing this week that I can't share yet, but I wanted to share my new space! When we moved to Kansas City, I knew that I would want lots of space for my work area and to have lots of wall space to have design walls hung up. I ended up getting the family room space in the basement of our new house! Lucky me! Here's the tour of my space:
As you come into the basement and look to the right, you'll see a 4x4 cubby for my yardage. Anything over a yard, I wrap around magazine board and make mini bolts. I tried to color coordinate so my solids and prints are in a gradient, but my favorite designers are kept together. I also have my backing yardage together so I know what I can pull from when choosing backing.
If you look to the left, you'll see the following:
My IKEA kitchen island is my cutting board, and I have two smaller 2x4 cubbies that my ironing board is sitting on top of that make a handy little L shape. I wanted a space where I can cut and iron next to each other and be able to do so on the both sides as well. My design walls will be hung on the blank walls to the right!
This picture is at the corner of the L, looking back at the 4x4 cubby.
Now you can see my other bookshelf for my books and magazines, other crafts, large bolts, and miscellaneous things. I forgot that there is no closet in a family room. Lots of the items that used to be hidden in a closet needed some space so they ended up on the bookshelf.
Finally, a picture with me standing in the middle space of the L looking at the other corner of the room.
My Fotodiox is on the corner of the table and I have a table lining on the back wall under the minis. My Juki and Bernina are on tables below the window for sewing areas. The inside of the 2x4 cubbies are all of my project boxes and under the cutting table are some miscellaneous blocks and batting!
My room isn't perfect yet, but it’s getting there! I can't wait to get some consistent time sewing!
What does your room look like?
Your turn! What did you accomplish this week? A block? A quilt top? Link up below!

Your sewing space looks GREAT! Moving is a great opportunity to set things up exactly how you want them (And, if you’re like me, to rearrange them every six months or so.)
I am very envious of your sewing room. It is so spacious. Mine is in a small bedroom of our older house which you couldn’t put anything in really (although it is crammed with junk). I share my sewing room with a lot of stuff from my guild…one more year and then hopefully I can pass those things on. I am currently trying to clear things up a bit in the space and I’m looking forward to having at least a tidier space to work in.
Your space looks great, Sherry. So happy for you!
Getting 90% there after a move is great! I hope you are starting to feel settled in all over your new home.
Wow you have got a lot done 90%. It looks great! Hoping I can get things together that quick after our move in January.
Heading over to check out those magazine boards! I may need some.
Looks great!
Awesome Sherry! 😊
Your space looks fantastic! So glad you are almost set up and ready to go!!
You look all cozy, neat and tidy there already!!! Great job moving in. Now the fun begins!
Your sewing studio looks so inviting, light, and spacious. I expect we’ll be seeing great stuff coming from here.
That’s looking really great! I’m sure you’ll be enjoying that space!
What a fantastic sewing space! Wow! I’m so impressed with how you organized all that yardage, I’ve been planning on wrapping my yardage around a comic hardboard insert for 1.5 years … but they’re still stacked haphazardly.
Hi Sherry! I am so glad to see you getting settled and organized. That has to be a huge load off of your mind and heart, and secret sewing is a great thing even when you can’t share with us. I adore seeing other people’s sewing workspace. I always find it inspiring to see where other friends find their mojo and how they decorate. {{Hugs}} to all things in your bright future. Happy Sunday! ~smile~ Roseanne
Your space looks amazing! I can’t believe you got all that unpacked and set up so quickly! Wishing you many, many happy hours of quilting in your new space!
