Anxiety and Quilting (Friday Foto Fun #50)
Happy Friday! It's almost Fall and I think we finally had our last 90-degree day here for the year! With starting a new job in July, I've had a lot less time to quilt during the week so I've been working very hard to keep up only sewing on the weekends. I have some really fun things in the pipeline and I'm trying to focus on the exciting part rather than the anxiety-filled part. So let's start with the fun part!
Isn't that just one of the most beautiful photos of trimmings? This is my stack of trimming for one of my upcoming quilt patterns! Huzzah! It's been a while since I released a new pattern! I love using my handy clearly perfect slotted trimmer to trim my half square triangles before pressing them open. The quilt top is completed and will be on its way to Rhonda shortly!
In case you missed it, I had a spotlight interview on the Create Whimsy website. It was super fun to answer their interview questions. I met Lynn and Chardel, the creators of Create Whimsy, at this past Spring Quilt Market!
I will be attending Fall Quilt Market on Sunday and Monday this year in Houston. If you are going to be there, I'd love to meet up and go searching for the quilts and items that I made that are at market! More on that later this fall.
Now the super exciting and anxiety filled part...
I submitted 3 different quilts to the Spring/Summer 2019 Island Batik catalog and ALL 3 of them were accepted! Super cool right?! The best part about working with Island Batik is they give you the schedule up front and I can plan my schedule to complete the quilts in time. The anxiety part is just the realization that I have a LOT of sewing to do this November and I MUST make this deadline.
One of the quilts that got accepted is the Barn Quilt Block of the Month (BOM) that I've been working on for months! I think this is the kick in the butt that I needed to make sure that this quilt gets patterned and developed correctly into a Block of a Month! The sample that I'll make for Island Batik will be at Spring Quilt Market next year! Here's where I need some feedback:
- When should I host the Block of the Month? Is summer a bad time? Should I wait until next August?
- Would any of my blogger friends like to host the BOM with me? This would mean you'd get to pattern test with me as I'm finalizing the pattern and help me host and promote the BOM.
Thoughts?!
This weekend I'll be working on getting more secret sewing done! I have so many things coming up it's about to get overwhelming! Wish me luck!
Your turn! What did you accomplish this week? A block? A quilt top? Link up below!
A few reminders:
- When you link up a post, please try to support the others folks in the linky party! Let's spread the motivation and support to help everyone make progress in their own time.
- Your post does not need to be something quilty you accomplished, but definitely encouraged. Sometimes life just gets in the way, but feel free to share something you are proud of this week.
- In your blog post, please include a link back to my blog or grab the Friday Foto Fun Button and put it on your sidebar. This way others who visit your blog can also join in on the fun!

Wow, Sherry, you have a lot of exciting things going on! Congratulations! 🎉
Sherry congratulations times 3.
Well, you know I’m happy dancing for you! Can’t wait to see what you are cooking up. No idea on the best time for a BOM, but maybe soon after the pattern release?
All good news….congratulations to you for all you have going on!
Love your energy!! Lots going on but hey! That’s how to keep life exciting!! I’m fairly new to quilting (3 years) but do love BOMs. We do one with our Quilt Club and what’s worked for us is a January release. This time of the year is always slow for most quilters. We’re done with Christmas and any other projects that would be needed for early year. So, our “fearless” leader helps us with directions, discusses the pattern chosen, etc. I try to stay on task with each month’s release so that when summer comes, if I do get a bit behind, its easy to get caught up. We may get the final blocks in November and always do a “show” the following January.
My guild does a different release….more of a mid year….and I’ve failed at that. Not sure if was just me or the timing but I’ve only completed one BOM with that schedule.
Just my thoughts!! Have a great weekend!
Congratulations everywhere! You’re really such a go-getter! I have never really participated in a BOM, but if I was to do it, I think summer is a good time.
Congratulations! All of that will keep you busy. I will be happy to pattern test and promote your BOM if you like.
Congratulations! I know you can do it! I don’t have a suggestion for times, I’m not a good follower, especially with the finishing part so I can’t be of much help.
Congrats! I suggest learning to say ‘no’ for the next few months, keep yourself organized, breathe deeply, and it will all turn out just fine! I also suggest a BOM to start in August, as a lot of people have difficulty sewing during the summer.
I’d love to host and pattern test, just let me know! I’ll be doing a lot of sewing myself, come November, what fun!!
Congratulations on the interview and making it in the catalogue. That sounds like a lot of work. Good luck!
