Abstract Garden Blog Hop + Giveaway!
Happy Abstract Garden Blog Hop Week! This week Benartex is hosting a blog hop showcasing Christa Watson's new fabric line, Abstract Garden. Read more about the inspiration for each of the prints here on Christa's blog!
I was lucky enough to play with this fun fabric last fall and made a Jelly Roll Rug for Christa's Fall Market booth. I love the vibrant colors of Abstract Garden and the fabric line coordinates so well with Christa's previous 2 fabric lines! Read about my Fall Market experience here.
Making the Jelly Roll rug, I decided that I wanted to make the rug in rainbow color order. I tried to make sure that none of the same prints were next to each other, too!
The next step for the jelly roll rug is to make one really long strip of fabric!
My original intention was to have red on the inside of the rug and rainbow outwards. However when you make the rope ball, the end you start with first will be the OUTSIDE of the rug. I started with the pink/purple side instead of the red. The rope ball gets really big and I tend to sew part of the rope, wind the ball, pin the tail so it doesn't unwind, and repeat until I'm finished. My stuffed animal is standing on my rope ball to help show size!
Sewing the rope ball into a rug, make sure that your surface is flat and the rug doesn't droop over the side of your machine. This will help the rug stay perfectly flat with little starch at the end! I actually was able to keep my rug flat enough I didn't need to starch at all! You can read about my first experience making a Jelly Roll Rug here.
Isn't it just beautiful?!
Things you'll need to make this Jelly Roll Rug:
- Jelly Roll Rug Pattern by Roma Quilts
- One 2.5" strip pack of Abstract Garden fabric
- Bosal Batting Roll (50 yards)
- Jeans sized needle
- Wonder Clips (these are the best for making the rope)
Benartex has given me the opportunity to give away a bundle of fat quarters of Abstract Garden! The giveaway is open until 12am CST on February 16, 2019 and is open to US residents only. Void where prohibited by law.
What are you excited to make with this fabric?

I’m always on the lookout for fabric to make Project Linus quilts for kids.
I really like your jelly roll rug! But I can also see this as a quilt for one of the granddaughters
I am not sure what I would make, probably something for my granddaughter. She loves bright colors as do I.
Your rug is delightful! I’d use this fabric to make some cosmetic cases.
I love your jelly roll rug. Perhaps I would try one of those.
I love how the jelly roll rug looks so tropical with this fabric!
I have a flower quilt pattern this fabric would be perfect for.
After seeing your jelly roll rug, I want to make one!
Hi sherry, A Jelly Roll RUg is on my list of makes……..thank you for sharing your tips. It’s beautiful…
Abstract Garden is so bright which I love in fabrics. Currently storage is what a need so I will probably make some fabric baskets.
These are fun, colorful prints! My husband gave me the jelly roll rug pattern and pre-cut batting for Christmas; I just need to find the time to make it!
I would make a bunch of knitting project bags and zipper pouches. I participate in allot of swaps on Ravelry, and love to give them away.
Really love the colors think they would make great MOD DOGs.
I would love to make a bright spring quilt.
I’m always excited for new material to make small quilts and bags!
I would like to make some storage bins. Bright on beautiful on my shelf. 😉
I love the rug. It is on my to-do list. Thank you for the inspiration.
