Abstract Garden Blog Hop + Giveaway!
Happy Abstract Garden Blog Hop Week! This week Benartex is hosting a blog hop showcasing Christa Watson's new fabric line, Abstract Garden. Read more about the inspiration for each of the prints here on Christa's blog!
I was lucky enough to play with this fun fabric last fall and made a Jelly Roll Rug for Christa's Fall Market booth. I love the vibrant colors of Abstract Garden and the fabric line coordinates so well with Christa's previous 2 fabric lines! Read about my Fall Market experience here.
Making the Jelly Roll rug, I decided that I wanted to make the rug in rainbow color order. I tried to make sure that none of the same prints were next to each other, too!
The next step for the jelly roll rug is to make one really long strip of fabric!
My original intention was to have red on the inside of the rug and rainbow outwards. However when you make the rope ball, the end you start with first will be the OUTSIDE of the rug. I started with the pink/purple side instead of the red. The rope ball gets really big and I tend to sew part of the rope, wind the ball, pin the tail so it doesn't unwind, and repeat until I'm finished. My stuffed animal is standing on my rope ball to help show size!
Sewing the rope ball into a rug, make sure that your surface is flat and the rug doesn't droop over the side of your machine. This will help the rug stay perfectly flat with little starch at the end! I actually was able to keep my rug flat enough I didn't need to starch at all! You can read about my first experience making a Jelly Roll Rug here.
Isn't it just beautiful?!
Things you'll need to make this Jelly Roll Rug:
- Jelly Roll Rug Pattern by Roma Quilts
- One 2.5" strip pack of Abstract Garden fabric
- Bosal Batting Roll (50 yards)
- Jeans sized needle
- Wonder Clips (these are the best for making the rope)
Benartex has given me the opportunity to give away a bundle of fat quarters of Abstract Garden! The giveaway is open until 12am CST on February 16, 2019 and is open to US residents only. Void where prohibited by law.

The absteact garden fabric is so pretty! It would be so pretty in a quilt!
A garden guilt to use on the porch swing.
I love the colors. I could see this as a quilt with a woven ribbon pattern. I just finished a quilt with a jelly roll. It looks great as a rug. Thanks for the jelly roll rug tips.
Love the colors in the rug! I can see that fabric being used in a lot of different ways.
What great colors & I love your rug! Looks like a future to-do for me!
I am always excited to make a quilt with new fabrics, but wouldn’t some baby items be fun too!
I’ve been watching all things Abstract popping up on the net. This would make some great charity quilts!
As almost always – I want to make a quilt with this fabric – and if there are leftovers, I will love a notebook cover with it also.
I’d love to try to make a rug. Yours is beautiful!!
The rug turned out so amazing and everyone loved seeing it in my booth! Now I kinda want to just make a rope ball as a decoration, LOL!! Thanks for sharing your talent 🙂
Love that new fabric! Combines my love for abstract and bright colors! So many ideas to play with, but I think it would look great with a bright white in a woven ribbon pattern.
Love the rug– all the bright colors
I’m excited to make a quilt for my daughter. I’m sure she would love it.
You won’t believe this but I have been scouring the internet trying to find the best way to make a rag rug. I love yours. Thanks for the inspiration. Kathy from Missouri
Sew fun! I love the order you placed the colors!
A Big bright happy pillow!
Love these fabrics.
I love the bight colors in this line. I would love to make a quilt for my niece with it.
I love your jelly roll rug. My grandmother used to make rag rugs and I’ve always loved them.
I’ll make a bright fun quilt. Maybe butterflies.
