QuiltCon2019 Recap (Friday Foto Fun #73)
This year's QuiltCon was held in Nashville, TN this past Thursday to Sunday. I traveled out there Wednesday morning and got home late Sunday night! I was also a Super Volunteer meaning I did over 16 hours of volunteering at the event! I look forward to going to Austin in 2020 and Atlanta in 2021. Here are some of the highlights:
The quilt show was AMAZING! There were so many great quilts, challenge quilts, and charity quilts. You can look at the #quiltcon2019 hashtag on Instagram to see a much larger gallery, but here are a few of my favorites! Also, photographs do not do the quilts justice! I tried something new this year and shared all these quilts on my Instagram stories so I could write the maker of the quilt directly on the photo! (Click on the photo to enlarge)
I learned so much this year with all the different classes.
On Thursday, I took Improv Braid with Victoria Findlay Wolfe. I had taken 2 classes with her in Savannah at QuiltCon2017 and she is always so amazing and I learn so much. If you ever get a chance to take a class from her, definitely jump on it!
We spent a large part of the class working on the design and then spent the back half sewing. I love how much she guided us in designing our own quilts. I think I will only make this a table runner since I have a bad habit of finishing works in progress from classes.
On Thursday night, I took a hand quilting class with Sandra Johnson about Sashiko. I love the calmness of hand quilting, but I don't think I can do Sashiko without the printed lines!
On Friday, I took beginning and advanced Lino Printing with Karen Lewis. This is so much fun and I think I see more fabric printing in my future. How cute would little bags be made out of this fabric that I printed?!
On Saturday, I took 2 different quilting classes. I took Plan Your Quilt with Christa Watson and Free Form Quilting with Christina Cameli! Both classes were great for expanding my quilting skills. I forgot to take photos with both of the instructors this time, whoops! I need to remember that building my confidence with free motion will help me actually get better!
On Sunday, I took a foundation paper piecing class with Sarah Thomas aka Sariditty! The method she taught was different than what I've learned before and I think the sewing part is way faster! The prep, however, is a little slower, so I want to time myself in the process to see if it's actually more efficient for me! We were making her Get Lit lightbulb pattern! I got the bulb part finished in class!
These are JUST the highlights. I will try to do some more in-depth thoughts on the projects as I finish them. If you are on the fence about going to the next QuiltCon, you should definitely go! It was so great.
See you in Austin!

I loved that class with Victoria – great to see all the different fabric selections! Nice meeting you!
Living in the Dallas area I’m definitely hoping / planning if at all possible to make it to the show next year! Can’t ask for much closer to me than just 4 hrs away.
How much fun (and I won’t mention the “work” part) I hope that I can go to QuiltCon when it is in Atlanta.
Ok, I’m seriously jealous of all your classes, especially VFW. That’s a definite bucket list for me! Sounds like you had a great time (are you exhausted?)!
Whoa! You really participated–classes, photos and volunteering overtime!! Thanks for sharing your photos and experience, Sherry! That was interesting. And thanks for hosting the link up, also!
Wow, that’s a lot of classes! And what great choices!! I’m not planning on Austin but I am hoping to go in Atlanta! I love what you created in the VFW class and sashiko is something I’ve long wanted to try.
