Sewtopia 2019 Recap!
I was in Salt Lake City this past weekend for the 11th Sewtopia! It was a fun weekend with friends and some fun classes! Sherri Lynn Wood and Karen Lewis were the instructors for this year, and I learned a lot. Sherri Lynn Wood taught an improv angles class. I still think improv is not my thing, but it was fun to learn how to let the process take me along. I ended up with a fun 20" square that I'm turning into a pillow cover!
Karen Lewis taught screen printing, and she also created a foundation paper piecing pattern for us too! I first took a screen printing class from Karen at QuiltCon 2018, and I remembered it was super fun. This class did not disappoint. I attempted some more complicated patterns this time, and I think they turned out great! I love the trees, and I think I am going to carve these prints into lino blocks so I can keep the designs forever!
I used the large tree as the focal print in my foundation paper pieced teacup! It ends up a good mug rug size, but I opted to make a zipper pouch instead.
Sewtopia was also selling kits of Noodlehead's patterns, and I created the small petal pouch. This is a super small pouch, and it was the first time that I tried out curved zippers. Not difficult, but definitely something new that I learned how to do!
I think this was the first retreat that I didn't pack everything that I needed; thankfully I had great sewing table mates that let me borrow or gave me the extra items that I forgot to pack!
The next spring Sewtopia in 2020 is going to be held the first weekend in April in Las Vegas at the Flamingo hotel! How exciting! Registration opens this July (I think).

Years ago I went to a retreat annually with a couple of friends. We had a packing list that we would share with each other. It’s so helpful, since you forget from one year to the next.
Sounds like a great weekend. I’m glad you had table mates who helped you out when you needed something!
Looks like a fantastic sewing event! I love that tree, and it looks great as the center of a teacup. I went to a lecture by Karen Lewis at QuiltCon 2017. I didn’t know I was going until the last minute so classes were full but the lectures were not. What items did you forget?
That tree design is wonderful! You should definitely do more with it.
