Rocket Star Quilt Block!

Happy doubleheader blog post Friday!  I am really pleased to show off the Rocket Star Quilt block by the Fat Quarter Shop!  This block came together so easily and I always love a fancy block with little waste! I utilized Island Batik fabrics in blue to showcase this block.

The block utilizes the Starburst 30 degree ruler for the pieces.  I was so impressed when I trimmed up the corners that the edges all matched.  Then I realized 30 degrees multiplied by 3 is 90 degrees... a perfect right angle!

The quilt block is a confident beginner block and you can download the free block pattern here!

Here are my tips for construction:

  • Since the block is on the bias, make sure you do not pull on the fabric as it may distort.  If you like to starch your fabric, make sure you do so prior to cutting!
  • I utilize Clearly Perfect Angles on my sewing machine to save me the time of marking all of my stitch and flip corners.  It's such a time saver!

Here is the full quilt by the Fat Quarter Shop, isn't it just beautiful?!
