Sew Let’s QAL Block 5!
Block 5 of Sew Let's QAL is released today! Read all the details of the QAL here. Don't forget to bookmark my quick links page for easy access to all of the designers' and hosts' blog posts! Block 5 is a quilt shop and it was designed by Abbie of Sparkle On! Block 5 is also the last block of Segment 1, so be sure to check out the Segment 1 recap blog post here! Remember that all patterns for the QAL will be free until September 24, 2019 (the end of the QAL).
Here are my top tips for constructing this block:
- Like the other blocks so far with lots of small pieces, make sure you label all the pieces that you have cut!
- I always like to lay the block out on my design board to make sure that I know where each piece is used. Check out my design board tutorial to make your own.
- Because of the small pieces, your seam allowance is going to be very important to make sure the block doesn't skew.
- When you sew your stitch and flip corners, make sure to press the corner open to ensure that the piece is the correct size before trimming the excess fabric. This will make for a more accurate block.
- Last but not least, remember to check your seam allowances! Especially for the flying geese in the awning. With so many small pieces, a little bit off each piece adds up to be a lot off!
