Sew Let’s QAL Block 7!
Block 7 of Sew Let's QAL is released today! Read all the details of the QAL here. Don't forget to bookmark my quick links page for easy access to all of the designers' and hosts' blog posts! Block 7 features an Iron designed by Karen of Tu Na Quilts! Remember that all patterns for the QAL will be free until September 24, 2019 (the end of the QAL).
Here are my top tips for constructing this block:
- I read all of the instructions first, cut my blocks out, and then lay out the blocks on my design board. Blocks that are stitch and flip I just lay on top of each other. This is my favorite way to double check that I cut all the necessary pieces and know where they all go. Check out my design board tutorial to make your own.
- When sewing squares on the diagonal or even 1/4" off the diagonal, I always use my Clearly Perfect Angles for alignment. With it, I no longer need to mark sewing lines!
- The trickiest part of the pattern is making sure you cut the correct side off the spray head. See photo below. When you trim the square to 3", you can make the spray head larger or smaller to what you desire by how much you trim off each side. I aligned mine as close to the center as I could make it.
- For making the patchwork part, I sewed in pairs of 2 rather than sets of 3. This made my chain piecing much faster with less thought since they are all the same. Once I went from 12 strips to 6 sets of 2, I sewed them together to make 3 sets of 4 and then finally to sewing them together.
- For embellishments, I decided to use a Fabric Marker, since the only ric rac that I own is green and would not match with my color scheme. I may come back and embroider the cord and the water at a later time. But for now, my block is complete!
Remember, we are doing prizes by segment for this QAL rather than by each individual block. The current segment ends after Block 9 and the entry window will be open from 12am Eastern on July 2 to 11:59pm Eastern on July 15. There are 3 ways to enter, all of which require a photo of all finished blocks in the segment:
- If you are on Facebook: Join the Partners in Design, Where Friends and Fabric Meet Facebook Group, and post a photo of all the blocks in the segment to be entered to win.
- If you are on Instagram: Use the hashtag #SewLetsQAL on the photos of all the finished blocks in the segment to be entered to win.
- Each host will have a Linky Party on their last block of the segment for you to link up the photo of all finished blocks for that segment in order to be entered to win.
The prizes for this segment include:
- A Warm 100 queen size batting from the Warm Company.
- A fat quarter selection from Dear Stella, “Can You Dig It?” collection.
- Three printed table runner patterns from Shabby Fabrics, the Vintage Series.
- And, a free PDF pattern from each of these “Partners in Design”
