Mistletoe Magic Pillow: Christmas Collection Blog Hop
Today is my day to share my project from Masterpiece Quilt's Christmas Collection book!
The Christmas Collection has a lot of fun festive projects ranging from coasters to full-sized quilts that can be used year-round with some slight modifications to the color palette. My project is the Mistletoe Magic Pillow! This is one of the patterns that can be a quilt or a pillow and with color changes can be used all year.
I had two Northcott Artisan Shimmer packs with 5 pieces of 5" squares that I had gotten at Quiltcon (I think?) and I thought that was the perfect amount to create the pillow! The pillow size in the book shows another border to create a 22" pillow cover for a 20" pillow. However, I love my pillows to be snug inside the pillow cover so I didn't add the extra borders.
The nine-patch and snowball blocks are great blocks for a beginner and super quick to make! I also thought that I should play with my HandiQuilter Amara to quilt this pillow! It wasn't until I was almost done quilting that I realized that I had loaded the back of my pillow as the backing behind the quilt top and I didn't have enough for the back of the actual pillow. I pivoted and now this is a mini quilt!
I love how having a longarm makes me look like such an amazing quilter! I used a feather swirl and some geometric block designs to quilt this block. The backing of the pillow and the backing of this mini is the teal blue that is also the binding. I also tried to "fake" this mini as a pillow and it just made me sad that I didn't have a new pillow. (Editor's note: She draped it over an existing pillow, and it actually turned out pretty realistic!)

You are an amazing Quilter! Loving the pillow top/mini wallhanging! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has these oops moments!
Sherry you are doing amazing to already be able to do a feathered wreath so well!! Perhaps you’ll have to make the matching piece for the pillow:)
Look at you go with that quilting! Clever you, draping it over a pillow and making it look so realistic! Love the pattern.
That looks so cozy! And nice quilting!!
That would have been such a darling pillow. As a mini wallhanging it is beautiful. Love your quilting!
Your quilting looks awesome! Glad you are having fun with the longarm.
So great to see you and Andi did two different approaches to the same pattern and both came out fabulous! Your quilting on this is beautiful.
