Sew Let’s QAL Block 12!

Block 12 of Sew Let's QAL is released today!  Read all the details of the QAL here.  Don't forget to bookmark my quick links page for easy access to all of the designers' and hosts' blog posts!  Block 12 is designed by Sandy of SandyStar Designs. The block features one of my favorite tools, a rotary cutter!  Remember that all patterns for the QAL will be free until September 24, 2019 (the end of the QAL).

Here are my top tips for constructing this block:

• I love how this block incorporates piecing and applique.  Make sure to check the 1" test square before tracing your applique shapes.  I use Heat and Bond Lite for my adhesive.

• For the piecing, Sandy has great instructions on how to make the half rectangles.  I used my Frixion pen to mark the dimensions before cutting.

• Once I had that completed, I used my design board to lay out the block to make sure I didn't sew any of the pieces upside down!  If you don't have a design board, you can purchase one here or make your own using my tutorial!

• Now for the applique part!  I cut out my shapes using my Karen Buckley scissors, the serrated edges give me a crisp finish.  I took all of the papers off and laid out each of the pieces on my Fusamat.  The Fusamat is a tool to help get all the pieces aligned and pressed together before ironing to the background.  The adhesive does not stick to the Fusamat at all!  It's a pretty awesome mat for those who like applique.

• Last but not least, I ironed my applique rotary cutter to my block!  I used a blanket stitch around all the raw edges to secure it down!

 

Remember, we are doing prizes by segment for this QAL rather than by each individual block.  The current segment ends after Block 13 and the entry window will be open from 12am Eastern on July 16 to 11:59pm Eastern on September 9.  There are 3 ways to enter, all of which require a photo of all finished blocks in the segment:

1. If you are on Facebook: Join the Partners in Design, Where Friends and Fabric Meet Facebook Group, and post a photo of all the blocks in the segment to be entered to win.
2. If you are on Instagram: Use the hashtag #SewLetsQAL on the photos of all the finished blocks in the segment to be entered to win.
3. Each host will have a Linky Party on their last block of the segment for you to link up the photo of all finished blocks for that segment in order to be entered to win.
