Wholecloth Mini Quilt Challenge!

This month's Aurifil Artisan Challenge is to make a Wholecloth Mini Quilt! Paintbrush Studio Fabrics provided a half yard of Painter's Palette Solids fabric to make the mini.  The colors provided to the Artisans are the 2019 trending colors and each color was given out at most twice!  I got Mink, it's a really nice tan neutral color!

I decided to use Amelia (my longarm) to quilt this mini quilt.  Whenever I see Wholecloth quilts, there is amazing quilting with feathers in a circle.  Not sure why I think of that, but it's where my mind goes.  I cut the half yard into fat quarters and loaded this tiny quilt onto my 12' frame.  It was a bit comical looking at this.  I basted the edges of the quilt so I could get the most space from my machine.  Using my basting lines, I drew the area on my Prostitcher.  Now the fun designing begins...

I picked out designs, resized them, and plopped them into the area that I drew.  I didn't mind that I was going to need to start and stop for each design.  I incorporated feathers and circles.  Once I was happy with the design, I started stitching from the inside out.

I was provided Aurifil 2325 in 40wt that matched perfectly with the Mink solid!  If you look carefully on the screen, you'll notice that I ended up adding a few more feathers to the design after I started.  I realized I didn't like some of the spaces that were left and filled it in.  I really love using the Prostitcher and can't wait to make some custom designs!

I utilized the entire throat space of my machine!  My Amara has a 20" throat but the workable distance is about 16".   Now that I finished the mini, I took it off Amelia and realized I didn't leave enough fabric for the binding!  Thankfully, I had some extra Paintbrush Studio Fabrics, Painter's Palette Solids in White leftover from when I created my Circular Illusion quilt a few weeks ago!
