The 5 Color Challenge!
I am finally at a state in the move that most of the things that I need are unpacked and put away. There are still boxes of miscellaneous things that don't have a place yet. Hopefully, we can be fully unpacked by the holidays with everything in a proper place. The latter is going to be the hardest part! Because my parents came and helped us for a week, I'm actually in a place where I can get started on all the quilts, challenges, patterns, and what not that was put on hold due to the move. Unfortunately for me, none of the deadlines have changed so I'm working as quickly as possible to get everything done in my limited time. This means I have PLENTY to share over the next few weeks and since this week is also Fall Quilt Market week, we are going to be kicking off a week of blogging today!
This month's Aurifil Artisan Challenge is to use 5 different thread colors for a project. I am loving the ability to make wholecloth quilts with my longarm. I picked some greens, teals, and blues to work with and got busy designing on my Prostitcher.
I stacked designs that were built-in with the Prostitcher to create the final design layout. (click on images to enlarge)
I switched colors a ton to get the desired effect. I think If I were to quilt this on my domestic machine, I would have started in the middle and been able to complete the quilting without as many color changes.
I used Kona White for the front of the quilt and Kona Charcoal on the back so that I can show off the different types of thread colors on very contrasting fabric.
I love how this quilt turned out. I did make a boo-boo on where I told the Prostitcher to stitch one of the motifs and accidentally have a small clash, but it's not very noticeable. I'm still learning how to reset the graphic to the correct location when I index the quilt forward.
5 Color Challenge Quilt Stats:
- Design: Prostitcher HQ designs compiled together
- Thread: Aurifil 1114, 2780, 2805, 2810, 4093 in 40wt
- Batting: Warm and Natural by Warm Company
- Fabric: Kona White and Kona Charcoal. Bright Blue for binding (not sure what color).
- Finished Size: approximately 35" square

Looks great and glad you have “recovered” from the chaos of moving. I can’t wait to try things like this. Spoke with the dealer about the pro-stitcher. Need to nail down the details this week!
