Travel Ready!
This past weekend I was working on a new project that used applique. My poor Bernina needs to go to the shop as there is something wrong with the bobbin case movement on my machine. I ended up needing to use my Janome Gem to zig zag stitch around the applique pieces. But the zig zag stitch reminded me that I could make fabric luggage tags!
I used Sara Lawson from Sew Sweetness's Cork Luggage Tag pattern (it's free!). I had some fun custom fabric that I fussy cut characters for the luggage tags. I love the fact that Sara's pattern covers up your information while hanging.
Here is my list of supplies:
- Natural Cork - I used scrap pieces.
- Clear Vinyl - I used clear glitter vinyl since that was the only scraps I had.
- Rotary Cutter 28mm - must have sharp blade.
- Ballpoint pen - to mark on vinyl.
- Frixion Pen - to trace out the pattern pieces.
- Snaps for the strap - I used Kamsnaps.
- Karen Buckley scissors in blue (6") - to cut out my pieces.
- Karen Buckley scissors in green (4") - to cut out the hanging hole.
- Rulers - I used my 2.5"x6.5" the most but I also used my 1.5"x6.5".
- Fabric Booster - to stiffen the fabric prior to cutting. I was using cotton lycra fabric.
- Chalk pencil - to mark on fabric to fussy cut!
Wow, that's a lot of different supplies! But it was totally worth it!
I ended up making a total of 11 luggage tags! Some are missing in the photo below.
I can't wait to make more luggage tags! But honestly, how many luggage tags does one person need?
There is something amazing about making something that doesn't take days to finish.
What is your favorite fast finish?

Bummer about your machine. Hope it gets fixed soon! Cute tags too.
The luggage tags are so cute. Once we can travel again, you’ll have some great looking luggage.
Great tags! I have some cork to play with and will keep this on the list of things to do with it! Always good to have something that looks different on your bag when traveling. I am sure you know a few people who travel and would love some if you just keep making them.
