Everyday is Bag Day (Friday Foto Fun #123)

Today is Friday. I have needed to remind myself which day it is every morning these last few weeks to keep myself on track.  But I've been able to work on bag patterns almost every day this week starting last Sunday.  I was supposed to be at Modern Stitching Affair in Madison, Wisconsin but it was canceled for obvious reasons.  We, the participants, decided to have an impromptu virtual sew day on Zoom.  Melissa Averinos, who was supposed to teach at the event, stopped by and hung out with us a bit.  A few of us made the bag pattern (Mason Bag) that Sallie Tomato was supposed to teach, too.

I made two Mason bags, one regular size and one mini.  The construction is super clever to have a finished lining on the inside of the bag.  It's a bit fiddly but worth it in the end.  I used my special mickey head zipper pulls and ended up with this happy accident!

I also found a sew-along online this week for the Sadie bag by Swoon Patterns.  I realized that if I worked in bits and pieces, the pattern didn't seem so overwhelming.  I was in a Disney mood so I used more of my Disney fabric to make the bag.  I reverse appliqued a mickey head silhouette too! I used the cutout and sewed it on the back pocket of the bag!

This bag was the first one that I've made with an expandable bottom.  It was easier than I originally thought!

The inside of the bag only has a slip pocket per the pattern, but it would have been easy enough to add a zipper pocket.  I really love how this bag turned out!

Both bags use 50wt Aurifil thread.  The Mason bag uses soft and stable foam stabilizer while the Sadie bag has fleece interfacing.

Even though I'm sewing lots of bags, bag day on my Twitch stream is officially tomorrow!  I'm going to be making the Travel Duffle Bag 2.0 by Annie patterns.  The only prep work I've done so far is to quilt my exterior fabric, foam, and lining fabric into one big quilted fabric.  Nothing has been cut to size yet.  Come join me tomorrow and hang out!

What bag patterns do you love?
