Townsend Bag (Friday Foto Fun #138)
Happy Friday! Last weekend was the official August Bag Day on my Twitch channel. I made the Townsend Bag by Sallie Tomato. The bag turned out super cute even though there were a few frustrating parts about this pattern.
The bag actually took me about 8 hours total to complete, and I had to stop on Saturday to ask for help in the Facebook group.
There are a few mistakes in the pattern that I needed to ask about. If you make the pattern, please note that the train case back panel measurements on the cutting instructions on page 1 and the premade labels are different. Follow the measurements on the cutting instructions, the premade labels are too big. The second (not as important) error is nowhere in the pattern does the woven interfacing get attached to the base pieces of the bag. Don't forget to iron them on during the prep for the fabric.
I did change the order of the interfacing for the bottom of the bag because I wanted to add bag feet. I swapped the order of the Peltex and the foam. The train case compartment of the bag is pretty neat, but I ran out of lining fabric and substituted another fabric from this line for the top part of the train case. The only edges that needed to be finished with bias binding was the bottom section of the train case. Everywhere else has a finished seam.
The interior of the main bag has a 100% finished lining, however, I dislike it due to the slouchy-ness of the lining. I like my lining with a little bit more structure. I'm tempted to actually just make the upper portion of the bag with bias binding on the seams because the lining would be not slouchy!
The back of the bag also has a luggage strap where you can secure it over a rolling bag handle. Overall I really think this bag is cute, but it was more work than I originally thought. This bag pattern is definitely an intermediate level and not for beginners!
I sewed the entire bag with matching mint-colored Aurifil 40wt thread even though I probably could have used 50wt. The foam stabilizer was not too thick compared to other bags I've sewn.

There is nothing more frustrating than mistakes in patterns, but they happen. It’s much easier now with FB groups, etc. so answers are at our fingertips. All in all, it’s a cute bag, Sherry!
