Brooklyn Handbag (Friday Foto Fun #133)

Last weekend, I streamed on Twitch making my Brooklyn Handbag by Swoon Patterns.  This is (in my opinion) one of the BEST bags I've ever made.  It looks so professional!

I used natural cork for the handles, strap, accents, and base of the bag.  I also got to put my hinged zipper foot to the test.  I absolutely LOVE the hinged zipper foot for bag making, think a 1/4" foot but it's 1/8". The foot is narrow enough to sew zippers and gives you that perfect 1/8" topstitch!  The best part is that you don't need to change feet making bags, since I can use the foot to sew EVERYTHING on the bag.  Here's a photo of the size difference between the feet.

The fabric used for the pattern is custom Disney fabric that is Summer Spectacular themed.  I cannot wait until COVID is over and we can actually be in crowds again without fear of getting sick. I even have some really awesome custom zipper pulls to go with it.

The interior of the bag has a zipper on one side.  It's perfect for a small handbag to carry your items.

The shoulder strap is optional, but I tend to make one regardless.  However, the handbag is fairly small, so you could get away without a shoulder strap.

The Brooklyn pattern comes in two sizes, the handbag is the smaller size.  I can't wait to get the larger-scale version of the fabric (I had to preorder again since I didn't buy it the first time around) to make the traveler bag size.   This would give me a matching set!

Details about what I used:

I will be making something on stream tomorrow.  It might be a bag or some quilt blocks... I haven't decided yet.  If you are free, come hang out, chat, and sew along!  I'll plan on starting around 8am Mountain time.  Be sure to follow me on Twitch to get a notification on when I go live!
