Serin Sling Bag (Friday Foto Fun #142)
Happy Friday! Last weekend was September's Bag Day stream on my Twitch channel. I used the woven panel I made the week prior with some black cork to make this darling Serin Sling Bag!
The bag took just over 6 hours to complete and it was the first bag that I've made with a zipper pocket divider in the middle. The interior of the back had 2 different sections that are divided by the zipper pocket, and the section towards the back of the back had an interior zipper pocket as well.
The bag was supposed to have a slip pocket in the front of the bag... but I didn't read the instructions completely before starting (whoops!) and ended up cutting the slip pocket out of cork! If I were to put that in the front, the beautiful woven piece would have been covered up. I decided to make the slip pocket on the back with a magnetic snap.
The side of the bag used connectors sewn on and reinforced with rivets. I can't rave enough about having a rivet press! It makes rivets so easy to install. This was also one of the best straps that I've made with very pretty, even top stitching!
I sewed the entire bag with matching charcoal and white Aurifil 40wt thread. I even used both threads for topstitching the bag so that the charcoal was on the outside and the white was on the inside! YAY for matching threads!
The one thing that I would change is the flip lock at the front of the bag, I should have used a beefier lock. The petite size of this lock means that the bag can be pulled open without much force.
Bag Details:
- Pattern: Serin Sling Bag by Bagstock Designs
- Thread: Aurifil 40wt
- Hardware: PurseSuppliesRUs for the swivel hooks and Sallie Tomato for everything else
- Cork: Black from Fabric Fun House
Tomorrow, I'll be working on a quilt top for a blog hop coming up in a few weeks. The blog hop is for a new book that's out, so come get a sneak peek of what I'm making! I'll be starting at 8am MDT on my Twitch channel.

That looks seriously good. It’s genius to use a woven panel and that cork looks fabulous!
Cute bag! Thanks for the link up.
