Diamond Star Quilts Blog Tour + GIVEAWAY! (Friday Foto Fun #145)
Today is my stop on the Diamond Star Quilts Blog Tour! The book is by Barbara Cline and there are 12 different projects included!
The book is made for ambitious beginners because there are no Y-seams at all. The book uses some clever techniques to make some complicated quilts much easier to assemble.
The project I picked from the book to create was Twirling and A-Swirling! I actually streamed the making of this quilt top a few weeks ago on Twitch to really see how long this 48" square quilt would take me. It took me just about 5 hours to complete. I was shocked that the quilt top didn't take days! For reference, my quilt in a day Simply Series quilts take approximately the same amount of time, but this quilt looks so much more complicated!
Barbara steps you through strip piecing all the different sections and then cutting them down to size!
Once you have all the different strips, the book walks you through how to pin the pieces together to sew accurate seams to make an entire diamond.
Once you have all the diamonds, you sew triangles to the diamond to make a wedge. Then sew the wedges together to make the full quilt top.
I decided to quilt the quilt with the Scottish Plaid Diamond pantograph to accent the diamond shape. I think it turned out great! Click the photo to enlarge and see the quilting! As a side note, I still have open slots to get quilts finished before the holidays, so be sure to check out my Longarm Quilting Services to get your quilt presents finished!
The book also includes a fun applique version that can be done with younger children! It's a really fun alternative to piecing everything.

Your quilt is beautiful. Barbara’s books are wonderful. Full of great instructions, lots of tips and so much beauty. I can’t wait to see this new one.
I’m always curious about how the patterns go together and tips on pressing, choosing fabric and quilting designs.
I don’t think I’d have the nerve to time myself, but the results are beautiful, so I think I would try the same quilt pattern you did. I love the colors you chose, and it sounds like the instructions are very well done!
These quilts are beautiful and intriguing. I am looking for the answer to the challenge of how they are made. Thanks!
I love this quilt! I love making star quilts and I’m hoping to find my next project in this book.
This is stunning! I think I need to find a copy of the book!
Thanks for sharing
I love your quilt! The colors are great.
I just found this blog tour today – it’s going to be done before you realize it!! In just glancing at some of the things in the book, they look so interesting! The star on this post is really neat, and I certainly wouldn’t mind trying to make one. (So many on my to-do list right now….) Anyway, thanks so much for the chance to win!! 🙂
I just want to see all the projects! Your quilt is so pretty!
Love the Twirling Star quilt you made. Such a nice blue!
Seeing all the projects. This one is a stunner of course!
I love the swirl effect in your star quilt. I’d like to see the tips and tricks to create these beautiful stars.
Your color choices are wonderful! I need to make one of these for myself 🙂
Your quilt is amazing! I love quilts such as a Lonestar so finding new versions is a win for me. I think your quilt will be my first one from this book. I need it; not just a want!
This is amazing. I love star quilts.
Sherry, that’s a stunner!
Ooh. Your quilt is gorgeous! I love quilting books because of the beautiful pictures of quilts.
