How is everyone doing on their month 1 blocks?! I'm sewing along with everyone, but making it scrappy!
If you don't have a copy of the pattern yet, you can grab a copy from my Etsy shop or Payhip!
Instead of using 12 different fabrics and a background fabric, I'm using color families for each of the fabrics called out in the pattern. I use painter's tape to label each fabric with the corresponding fabric letter in the pattern. For each month, however, I will be attempting the same blocks with the same fabrics. Here is the color wheel of fabric that I'm using for my 12 different fabric letters (corresponding to the pattern).
With this being so colorful, why would I want a normal white background? I've spent years collecting low volume fabrics. Low volume meaning print fabrics that would read white, cream, light gray, etc. I pulled a whole bunch of my low volume fat quarters and intend on making the background super scrappy! Like with the color prints, I'll be looking to use about 4 low volume fat quarters for each month. Knowing that the blocks get scrambled in the final layout, I shouldn't be too concerned with too much of one low volume print in one area of the quilt.
If you haven't finished Month 1 blocks yet, no worries you still have time! If you haven't joined in yet, grab a copy from my Etsy shop or Payhip! Read my Month 1 tips here and then join my Facebook group to watch the recording of the live tutorial I did earlier this month!
Month 2 starts next Tuesday with the corresponding Facebook live on February 7th at 9am Mountain time!
