Lucky Stars QAL Month 1!

Welcome to the first month of the Lucky Stars Quilt Along!  This quilt along lasts until September and each month's post will be the first Tuesday of each month!  I can't wait to see your take on this skill-building pattern!  If you don't have a copy of the pattern yet, you can grab a copy from my Etsy shop or Payhip!

The quilt has 12 different fabrics with a background fabric.  If you are planning on making this quilt scrappy, I suggest that you use color families to balance the colors in the quilt or make the quilt completely scrappy!  Since I goofed and didn't cut myself another quilt's worth of fabric, I'll be making a scrappy version of this quilt during the Facebook Live sessions (always the Sunday at 9am Mountain after the blog-posting date).

This month we are making a total of 7 blocks, 3 of the 12.5" blocks and 4 of the 9.5" blocks using 3 different fabrics and the background.

There are 2 areas for mastery for making these blocks.

1. Sew a consistent 1/4" seam.
   • For newer quilters, this is probably the most important skill to master.  Make sure you are checking your seams if you are uncertain.
2. Half Square Triangles.
   • I use Clearly Perfect Angles on the bed of my sewing machine to avoid drawing diagonals, but if you do not have this, make sure you are drawing your diagonals!
   • I use Clearly Slotted Trimmers to trim my HSTs before pressing them open.  However, you can use a block-loc ruler or a normal square ruler that is larger than your HST.
