Simply Plaid Quilt Pattern!

Introducing Simply Plaid! This quilt was almost made 100% on stream. Unfortunately, I had a work emergency that caused me to cut stream right before I finished, but the total time to complete the quilt without the border was about 3 hours! I decided to add a border on the quilt to make it lap-sized. Something I realized when using fat quarters, I can't technically utilize a full 10" square like a layer cake and have 4 layer cake squares per fat quarter.

What this means is that this quilt technically could be larger if you used layer cake squares rather than fat quarters. I will have both sizes in the pattern when I release it next month. I wanted to limit the colors of this quilt to 5 and it took me a while to pick the colors with a limited palette since I also wanted fabrics that were more blenders rather than prints.

The only class I took this year during Quiltcon Together was a photography class. I learned some techniques, but I wish I learned a little more about staging my quilts. I really tried to get my quilts to look less frumpy but I didn't have that much success. Here are my tries for artistic shots! The second one is definitely better, but the quilt is still frumpy. Do you have a tip for me on how to fold my quilts for photographs?

Fabric: 5 Fat Quarters and solid white for background and border
Thread: 2024 Aurifil 50wt for piecing and binding, 401 So Fine 50wt for longarming
Batting: Warm and Plush by Warm Co
Finished Size: 60"x60" (with border, 48" square without border)
