How well do you know your machine? (Friday Foto Fun #171)
I love my Juki Straight Stitch machine. I purchased it over 3 years ago at QuiltCon 2018 in Pasadena. I figured I know my machine pretty well. I've made a lot of quilts and started to make bags with my machine. This photo was taken at MSA 2018 after I completed my train case.
So you'd think that there isn't much I don't know about my machine after 3 years. Well, I was wrong. My sister mentioned to me about a "thicker fabric" needle plate which pretty much means that the hole the needle goes through is larger than the standard plate.
The "thicker fabric" needle plate is on the left with the standard size on the right. As you can see I've hit the needle plate with my needle several times while sewing bags. It's definitely a needle bender if you hit the plate! I noticed that sometimes even without pulling or tugging the thicker bag seams, the needle will naturally deflect and I'll hit the plate. I cannot wait to try out the "thicker fabric" needle plate this weekend since it's April's Bag Day!
What are your sewing plans this weekend?
I will be streaming tomorrow starting at 8am Mountain on my Twitch Channel and I'll be making a Fun Bobby Backpack by Sincerely Jen Patterns. Come hang out, chat, and sew!

I still haven’t used the single needle hole plate on my machine, and I really need to give that a try. I’ll bet you’ll notice a big difference using that new plate!
I do hate when I find out something that would have been helpful after the fact. Of course, I always hope I will remember to use it the next time.
