Getting the Perfect Topstitch (Friday Foto Fun #184)
I have been bag making now for about a year and a half and the perfect topstitch has been elusive. I always somehow mess it up. Because my Juki has a flat bed I've typically had to topstitch from the inside of the bag versus the outside of the bag. I don't have a cantilevered end to tuck the bag under the machine to stitch on the outside to ensure my stitching is straight and even. I decided to look into purchasing a machine riser and it was a game-changer!
This is a wooden riser that my machine sits on top of so I can stitch on the outside of the bag while the flatbed part of the machine is on the inside of the bag. My topstitching has gotten significantly better just because I can see where it's going! I highly recommend getting a riser if your machine is like mine with no ability to topstitch from the outside normally.
My riser is 7"x17" and was custom-made by Bills Wood Turning on Etsy. This is not a normal size that's listed but I messaged him to see if he could make one to fit my machine! I love it!
What tools/equipment have you purchased to make tasks easier or look better?
Don't forget I'm streaming on Twitch tomorrow for Bag Day starting at 8am Mountain time!

Nice job. I’m glad your lift was worth the purchase. Thanks for the linky op.
I had no idea there was such a thing! I’m glad it is solving the problem for you. Does it hold steady as you sew, or does it bounce a bit?
It actually doesn’t bounce at all, I mean for topstitching you aren’t sewing jackrabbit speed so it’s not bad. The riser is really sturdy!
