Destination: Quilt Along Block 7!
The week we have a block that was designed by TWO designers! Kathleen McCormick of Kathleen McMusing and Karen Thurn of Tuna Quilts are this week's designers for Block 7 of Destination: Quilt Along. I picked out lots of grunge to make this beautiful Cityscape Block! This is a block to truly make your own city skyline!
Here are my top tips:
This block is all applique! I used Lite Steam a Seam 2 and a pencil. Trace the templates onto the paper side of the Lite Steam a Seam 2. Then iron to the BACK of the desired fabric. To save on fusible, nest the pieces so that it has fusible only on the edges of the shapes!
Pick the type of background you want for your block. Just make sure it ends up larger than 12.5" square so you can account for any shifting while appliqueing. Then iron down your cityscape pieces.
I used Aurifil monofilament thread with white thread in the bobbin to zigzag stitch the applique in place. The monofilament thread helps me to not need to change thread colors! This is more of a time saver when there are multiple applique pieces of different colors. Then trim the blocks to 12.5" square.
Ta Da! All finished!
