Happy Friday! Today I'm finally sharing the Voyage Handbag that took 3 weekend sewing streams to complete for an overall total of about 11 hours. It was so worth it for the final bag and I'm so happy how it turned out!
The exterior is made up of faux leather and accent faux leather for the straps. There is a slip pocket on the front exterior of the bag and I opted not to add a magnetic snap as I didn't think it would be needed. The top stitching for the straps did have a little bit of an issue skipping stitches because of the thickness and I have since ordered a hump jumper to see if that'll help me in the future. The back of the exterior has a zipper pocket.
The interior has a slip pocket on one side and an interior zipper pocket on the other. I also opted to add in the key fob holder as well. This is my first purse that's ever had one!
Now for the pattern review:
- This took a very long time to make, but it wasn't actually a difficult sew.
- This was my first time using Bontex, an extremely stiff interfacing, and it worked out really well.
- The thickness of the vinyl straps on the exterior fabric was very hard to sew. I'm hoping if I make the purse again, the hump jumper will help with the skipped stitches.
- The construction of the bag used a drop-in lining which I haven't had great success with, but this purse turned out awesome! I highly recommend not "birthing" the bag since the interfacing would make it extremely difficult to turn.
- Overall, this pattern goes under the "Will Make Again" list.
