Louie Waist Pack! (Friday Foto Fun #311)
Happy Friday before Christmas! I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend! I'm sharing the Louie Waist Pack by Uh Oh Creations today. I made this earlier this month... actually twice. This is the second version.
The first time I made this bag I tried to make it completely on the industrial, which was a mistake. I couldn't keep my seam allowances consistent, and there were a lot of mistakes overall. I was fairly upset with it so I decided to make a second one on my domestic as it didn't seem THAT thick. I did however use my industrial on the last assembly step of the waist pack since there were a ton of layers, and I felt like my domestic would struggle. The back of the bag has a small zipper pocket.
The interior of the bag is one big area. There are two zipper pulls on the main zipper so you can close and open in either direction.
This bag is very similar to the Lululemon fanny pack that has been very trendy and popular lately. I don't actually think that I'm trendy enough to use this bag. I did make a modification on the cross-body strap. The pattern called for a buckle, but I wanted to use the 1.5" webbing and didn't own any 1.5" buckles, so I used a triangle ring and a swivel hook with an adjustable slider. I think that actually accomplishes what the strap needs to do well.
Overall thoughts on (making) the bag:
- Use the right machine for the right task. My domestic could really handle most of the sewing on this bag. I think using the industrial for topstitching and the very thick assembly stitching would have been good.
- Don't forget that you can use a stapler on the curved seams with a gusset to ensure that seam allowances don't get wonky. My first bag was pretty awful.
- This bag is tiny. You can't fit a ton of things in it. I feel like it should be deeper like the gusset should have been wider. However, the measurements are very close to the Lululemon bag so I'm confused why they are so trendy!
